Kate Spade New York honours its late designer at NYFW

Kate Spade New York honours its late designer at NYFW. Kate Spade New York paid tribute to its late founder during New York Fashion Week. Although Spade had not worked at her namesake label since she sold her stake in 2006, her name and persona are forever linked to the label, and their show at Fashion Week marked the first major presentation since Spade’s death in June.

The nod to the late designer was true to who she was: tasteful and with a bit of sparkle.

Each person who attended the show, including Elizabeth Olsen and Priyanka Chopra, had two cards placed at their seat at the Celeste Bartos Forum at the New York Public Library, which was transformed into an intimate, pink covered venue.

The first card said “she left a little sparkle everywhere she went” on one side, and “in loving memory 1962-2018” on the other.

The other card featured a description of the upcoming season from the brand’s current designer, Nicola Glass. She wrote that the Spring 2019’s season is ‘a journey that starts at the beginning to form new paths.”

She also wrote that she looked at “original codes of the house refined and evolved in unique ways,” “a thoughtful approach to design,” and “it’s the little things that mean the most.”

A Spade print designed to look like flowers covered bags, sweaters, skirts and more. A yellow bag in the iconic boxy shape that helped put Kate Spade on the map was also featured during the show.

Kate founded her namesake brand in 1993 along with her husband Andy Spade. Her name quickly become synonymous with style and whimsy, capturing the hearts of celebrities and women around the world.

Kate died on the 5th June of this year aged 55.
