Viewers blown away by Katie Taylor documentary

Viewers blown away by Katie Taylor documentary. There was a lot of love for Katie Taylor on Tuesday night as the critically acclaimed documentary on the Irish Olympian debuted on RTE.

‘Katie’, from filmmaker Ross Whitaker, follows the Bray boxer as she strives to bounce back from a difficult year which saw her relationship with her father and long-time trainer Pete Taylor break down, leading to her surprise defeat at the 2016 Olympics.

At the lowest point in her career, Taylor decides to turn professional, with the cameras there every step of the way as she tries to fight her way back to the top.

Taylor may be shy and private outside the ring, ‘Katie’ – which aired on RTE on Tuesday night at 10:25 – offers a deeply personal insight into one of Ireland’s greatest ever athletes.

The documentary has received critical acclaim, winning Best Irish Feature Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh as well as being runner up at teh Dublin Film Critic’s Circle Awards at the end of 2018.

And it wasn’t just critics who loved the documentary.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to praise Katie and the production team.

Damien O’ Connor (@ratskins) said: “Difference between the McGregor Notorious documentary and Katie Taylor one – McGregor wins like one fight and instantly becomes a bazillionaire a million times over. Katie wins every match for 10 years… and doesn’t. #Katie”

Olivia (@Pinkharts) wrote: “There is a real role model for kids, a hard working athlete, honest, humble woman, never let the fame change her. Forget your reality stars, Katie Taylor is a true hero #Katie”

While Rosanna Cooney (@rosannacooney) said: “”My success in the ring doesn’t mean as much as my integrity”
The #Katie Taylor documentary is incredible for showing the nuance, the pain and the grit of a world-class athlete.
Watch it on player if you’re not watching it now.”
